The protection of copyright and of other rights connected to it is safeguarded by Law no. 633 of April 22, 1941, as amended.
The aforesaid Law protects creative works of intellect which belong to literature, music, the figurative arts, architecture, theatre and cinematography, whatever their mode and form of expression.
Also protected are computer programs as literary works pursuant to the Bern Convention on the protection of artistic and literary works.
In particular, copyright protection comprises:

1) literary, dramatic, scientific, didactic, religious works, both in written and oral form;

2) musical works and compositions, with or without lyrics, dramatic-musical works and musical variations constituting intrinsically original works;

3) choreographic works and pantomime works, whose outline is set in writing or otherwise;

4) the works of sculpture, painting, drawing art, etching and similar figurative arts, including scene settings;

5) architectural drawings and works;

6) the works of cinematography, silent or with sound;

7) photographic works and works expressed with a method akin to that of photography;

8) computer program, expressed in any form provided they are original and result from the author's intellectual creation;

9) databases deemed as collections of works, data or other independent elements systematically or methodically arranged and individually accessible by electronic means or otherwise; the protection of databases does not extend to their content and leaves unaltered any rights existing on said content;

10) industrial design works which in themselves exhibit creative character and artistic value.. >>>
